Chapter 8 Questions

1)Why does Kahn asking Asher to read from the bible? How does Asher feel about this?  Kahn want Asher to get some knowledge about the bible and the picture about Massacre of the Innocents. Asher feels uncomfortable and awkward about stadying another religion other then his.

2)What book did Rivkeh’s  bring to Asher? What does she ask him in relation to the book?  She brought him a book about drawing called "The Art Spirit". It's very shocking because the book tells asher to be free and expressing himself through his art.

3)Why does Kahn keep pushing Asher away from becoming an artist? Back up your information with details from the story. I believe it's a set up, the Rebbe and Asher's parents are working together to prevent Asher from becoming an artist.

Themes

1, Religion
2, Family
3, Art
4, Identity
5, Love

The theme i pick is religion. The reason why i picked religion is, through out the five chapters we read religion is the main conflict. It's been mention many times. The reason why it's been brought up many times, because Asher's parent are very serious about their religion and respected in Jews community. Even though his family are extremely religious but he is not.

Asher is a selfish person, the only thing he cares about is his drawings and expressing himself. When Asher is young His artistic drives him to do certain things of that the others in his community disapprove. For example drawing and I think the reason why Asher loves to draw even it's not allowed to draw in his religion, his parent should stop him or tell him that it's not allowed to draw in their religion from the first beginning.

In Jews community religion is their everything, what they live for, and they follow the Rebbe with all their hearts but on the other hand Asher dose not care about religion or anything else. we all know that Asher's parent works for the Rebbe and they're respected in the Jews community. so the big question is would Asher be accept in the Jews community after doing all things that aren't allowed in their religion?
